Journal Entry 1
Moanalua Gardens has a variety of niches including the grass and the stream. In the grass, there are trees, shrubs, bushes, and there are birds within the grassy areas and the trees and bushes. In the stream, there is fishes, crabs, insects, and moss and algae. Within the stream, there are certain areas where there different species.

Moanalua Gardens is a place with open grassy areas, lots of birds, plants and life. The stream is home to many fishes, insects, crabs, and plants. I think that Moanalua Gardens will be a good place to study because there is so much life and so many species to study. There are also many different types of species interaction in Moanalua Gardens.

There were predator prey relationships with the dead fish and the crab, the other dead fish and the flies, the fishes and the algae. I did not see any symbyosis, but there was competition for food with the different species of fish within certain parts of the stream. I did not know of any native species in this stream, and it does not look like this stream has been taken over by a species, so I don’t think there were any invasive species.

I observe that there is a lot of trash, and the water is very brown and dirty in the stream. How does this affect the species that live in the water? How does this trash get there? What would happen if there was no trash and the water was clear? I also observed that there was a lot of rocks, and other non living things in the water. What would happen if there were no rocks, or no bank, or no water for that matter? Why do crabs use the holes in the wall as crevices?

Some of the environmental pressures that could be driving Natural Selection would be weather, predators, fishing and litter. This happens quite a lot within the stream. There is a lot of rain, that could be causing changes in the tide. There could be predators that cause certain fish or other species to change. Lots of fishing goes on every time I go to Moanalua Gardens, and people are catching fish, which would cause certain species to change and adapt so that they don't get caught by humans. Litter also pollutes the stream, and the species could be changing to withstand certain chemicals or other things that could be harmful.

I can observe that the water has been is not as brown as last time, but there is the same amount of trash. I think it is because of the big amounts of rain there were before it. The soil looks the same as last time. There are more rocks showing, probably because it was low tide. The low tide could also mean that the water is clearer and thus, showing more signs of life. I saw more living things like fishes and plants and crabs.
If there was to be a stream clean up, would the stream become more filled with living creatures?
If there was to be less crabs, would there be more or less abiotic factors?
If there was less of a certain fish, would there be more or less abiotic factors?
